The Woonsocket Prevention Coalition (WPC) recently celebrated its twenty-fourth Annual Meeting at Riverfalls Restaurant in Woonsocket with colleagues and community partners throughout greater Woonsocket. The WPC honored Ms. Suzanne Carcieri, First Lady, State of Rhode Island and Chief Thomas Carey and the Woonsocket Police Department Vice Unit with its Annual Award for their significant contribution to substance abuse prevention in the city of Woonsocket. Ms. Bridget Bennett-Lewis, and Chairperson of the WPC Board of Directors and Vice President of Children’s Behavioral Health at NRI Community Services opened the Annual Meeting by recognizing those dignitaries and community members in attendance. Assisting Ms. Bennett-Lewis in the meeting was Lisa Carcifero, Executive Director.The slate of officers were presented and unanimously approved: Chairperson, Bridget Bennett-Lewis; Vice Chairperson, Deborah Perry, Secretary, Carol Frisk; and Treasurer, Ben Washington.Board of Directors for the 2010-2011 year were recognized and thanked for their commitment to the WPC mission. The WPC Board members are: Nicholas Chippo, Woonsocket High School; Joyce Dolbec, Consultant, YWCA, Elderly Committee Chairperson; Marc Dubois, School Committee Chairperson; Rev. Gene Giguere-Pastor Harvest Community Church; Capt. Ed Lee, Woonsocket Police Department; Suzanne Vadenais, Woonsocket City Council. Board members with completed terms are: Hannah Alegbeleye, Woonsocket High School; George Brainerd – Executive Director, YMCA; Tim Chase, Business person; Carnell Henderson, Assistant Principal, WHS; Evelyn Mack-Loggins, Parent, The Extra Mile. Ms. Carcifero presented the WPC accomplishments of the first year of its Three Year Plan and highlighted the numerous social marketing campaigns, youth activities and the initiatives of the Elderly, Substance Abuse Coordinating Team and Policy & Enforcement Subcommittees .Ms. Carcifero then recognized the Executive Committee for their many hours of dedication to the WPC, the graduating seniors for their accomplishments and WPC staff for their creativity and commitment to the WPC.
